Fair Work First Statement

Whilst Soulisquoy Printmakers (SP) is a volunteer-led organisation it nonetheless upholds the principles of Fair Work and is committed to the Scottish Government’s Fair Work First policy and strives to put Fair Work principles into practice. The rewards and conditions for its volunteers and freelance practitioners and their well-being are crucial to the programmes that are currently delivered. 

Soulisquoy Printmakers supports the five Fair Work dimensions thus:

1) Effective Voice Soulisquoy Printmakers provides channels for its members, creative practitioners and participants to engage in both reflective and active discussion and comment through regular engagement and events held at the print studio.

2) Fulfilment Soulisquoy Printmakers recognises the challenges of freelance working and that this provides less security, however renumeration at sector standards takes account of preparation and evaluation time. Successes are highlighted and promoted and participant feedback is provided to practitioners.

3) Opportunity Soulisquoy Printmakers works hard at securing project funds that create opportunities for practitioners and artists to deliver workshops and classes as well as develop their skills in participant engagement.

4) Security Soulisquoy Printmakers does not use, or issue zero-hour contracts and opposes the use of fire-and-rehire practice.

5) Respect All practitioners and volunteers involved with Soulisquoy Printmakers are entitled to be treated with respect and dignity at work and have a personal responsibility for ensuring that they treat others the way in which they would expect to be treated.  Soulisquoy Printmakers recognises dignity at work to mean being free to work without experiencing, bullying, harassment, discrimination or victimisation.
